Terms of Service
Last updated: September 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using Townwell ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. POC Status
Townwell is an invite-only proof of concept (POC) release, free to invited testers while we build and test it with early communities. This means:
- The Service is free during the POC, and we aim for it to be reliable and available. As with any early release, occasional interruptions, maintenance, or bugs are possible.
- Features may change, break, or be removed as we iterate.
- Because this is an early, invite-only POC, do not rely on Townwell as the sole copy of your data, documents, or files — keep your own backups.
- We take reasonable precautions to protect your data. If we discover a problem affecting your data, we will tell you.
- Access is limited to invited testers.
3. Your Account & Age Requirement
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must provide accurate information during registration.
You must be at least 18 years old to create a standalone account. Townwell is for adults only in this release: by registering you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older. We ask you to confirm this with a checkbox at registration and block under-18 signups. Accounts for minors under a parent or guardian are not available in the POC and are planned as a future feature.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Townwell to publish illegal, harmful, or infringing content, distribute malware, or interfere with the Service.
5. Content Ownership & License
You retain ownership of all content you create. You grant Townwell a non-exclusive license to host and display that content to operate the Service.
6. Content Moderation
We provide reporting tools so members can flag content they believe violates these Terms or the law. From the app, use the Report action on a post, event, document, or direct message; a report covers the whole item. Every report points at a specific item, which is the evidence the safety team reviews. Most reasons go to the community's admins; illegal media, malware, and threats of imminent harm go directly to the Townwell safety team, and a safety report can also mark the community's admins as complicit — so the safety team handles it without contacting them. Direct-message reports go to the community's admins only — the direct-to-safety-team reasons are not offered for direct messages in the app; to reach the Townwell safety team about a direct message, use our contact form. To raise a concern that is not about a specific item — for example, about how a community is run — use the same contact form. We may remove, hide, quarantine, or retain evidence of content that violates these Terms or that we reasonably believe is harmful.
7. Service Plans & Limits
Townwell is free during the POC — no payment is collected and no credit card is required. Prices shown for the Base, Plus, and Pro plans are direction only and may change. Billing is not enabled during the POC; when Townwell moves to public launch and payments are switched on, you will be told the final prices and the date billing begins before you are charged anything.
Organizations are subject to the limits of their current plan. We reserve the right to modify plan limits.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access at any time. You may delete your account at any time.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
10. Limitation of Liability
Townwell shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
12. Contact
Townwell is operated by App Brats (entity formation in progress). If you have questions about these Terms, use our contact form.
